Professor Ioan Davies, member of the Graduate Programmes in Communication & Culture, Social & Political Thought and Sociology.
カナダ、ヨーク大学、大学院教授（社会学、社会・政治思想、コミュニケーションと文化）。
1998年、同志社大学文学部社会学科、大学院文学研究科社会学専攻客員教授。
2000年２月キューバにて歿。

大学は教育社会学者のバジル・バーンステインにロンドン大学で学ぶ。その後、博士号をエセックス大学で取得。トロントのヨーク大学に赴任する。
著書にWriters in Prison. Cultural Studies and Beyond.*1など。論文は、Negotiating African Culture.(Fredric Jameson and Masao Miyoshi esd.The Cultures of Globalization.Duke UP)など。晩年は都市空間の研究。
彼の学生には、Gary Genosko*2*3（レイクヘッド大学、カルチュラル・スタディーズ、ガタリやボードリヤール、マクルーアンの研究）、Jody Berland*4（ヨーク大学、カルチュラル・スタディーズ、メディア空間、ポピュラー音楽の研究）、Janine Marchessault*5（ヨーク大学、映画、メディア、マクルーハンの研究）、Iida Yumiko*6（東京大学）、Alan O'Connor*7（トレント大学、カルチュラル・スタディーズ、レイモンド・ウィリアムズの研究）などがいる。 粟谷も晩年の彼に教えを受けた。
